I have been an HSS frequent flier for decades. As an avid skier, I'd had a few torn cartilage issues repaired, had a plica removed and had a PVNS growth removed.

Dr. Brian Halpern has been my primary physician and had previously referred me to Dr. Altchek for surgery.

During a ski trip to Steamboat Springs in 2010, I took a spill. I couldn't walk, which had also happened the last time I tore cartilage skiing. I called and spoke with Dr. Halpern and set up an appointment with him first thing Monday morning - the fall occurred on a Friday.

After an x-ray indicating a severe tibial plateau fracture requiring fixation, Dr. Halpern arranged for me to see Dr. Lorich within the hour. I was checked in and operated on the next day by Dr. Lorich. It was a long and painful recovery which took 2 years. With the support of Dr. Halpern (including several PRP treatments) my knee does nearly everything it used to! I was able to get back on skis again, but no more daredevil moves for me!

I continue to see Dr. Halpern for treatment of the arthritis the accident left in its wake. He's helped preserve the knee so well. But when it's time for anew one, HSS is the only place I will go.
