Our son was wrongly diagnosed by a local pediatric orthopedic doctor. At a second opinion, that doctor diagnosed our son from the first doctor's X-rays. We were shocked and had never heard of Juvenile Osteochondritis Dissecans. A friend of ours heard about Jack and called to tell us he knew just the doctor to take Jack to but he was in NYC @ HSS. We didn't hesitate and made our first appointment. Within minutes of meeting Dr. Sam Taylor, my husband and I knew that this was the doctor that we were going to let be the one to decide what was best for him.

Dr. Taylor tried the conservative route, which at the time frustrated us because we just wanted him "fixed" and back to normal. Looking back, we are so glad we tried to avoid surgery on our 13-year-old boy. After six months of crutches and a special brace.....he ended up needing surgery.

On October 14, 2015, Jack went into the operating room and we had such confidence in Dr. Taylor and knew that he would be just fine because Dr. Taylor made us feel like he cared about him like he was his own. The surgery went well but he had some complications to anesthesia that landed him in our local ER twice. Dr. Taylor personally was in constant contact with us until he knew Jack was ok. He just always went above and beyond and really let us know that he cared about Jack.

He was cleared for sports at the end of August....10 months after knee surgery! He played in his first game on September 18, 2016-exactly 18 months to the day he was diagnosed. I was choked up watching him play that game (without even a knee brace!)....he defiantly is "BACK IN THE GAME"!!!!!
