Back in high school, I underwent arthroscopic surgery on my left and right knees, respectively, after falling and fracturing both patellas. A few years ago, I fractured my left knee for the second time in Hurricane Sandy. I was told that my comminuted fracture would be a complex and difficult repair. I was referred to Dr. Wellman from another trauma specialist. Despite the state of emergency and the overload in the hospital, I underwent patella ORIF surgery with Dr. Wellman within a week. In only 2 months, I was able to walk again without crutches or a brace. One year later, I was able to squat and run again pain-free, which I wasn't even able to do before breaking my knee for the third time. Dr. Wellman's surgical expertise, the high standard of patient care at HSS, and the subsequent rehabilitation process collectively triggered my decision to pursue a doctorate in physical therapy so I could assist others recovering from similar trauma. Today, I am finishing my final clinical rotation at NYPH Weill Cornell in the orthopedic trauma service, helping patients just like myself to restore functional mobility and maximize quality of life.
