I had severe osteoarthritis of my hip that had become so severe I couldn't walk a block without pain let alone play basketball daily as I had done for over forty years. I saw several doctors and all told me I needed a full hip replacement. I went with Dr. Sculco because of the outstanding reputation of both HSS and Dr. Sculco. Dr. Sculco also was the only doctor who told me that I would be able to play basketball again.

Dr. Sculco gave me my life back. After a couple of months I was playing hoops again, walking everywhere as I used to, traveling and exploring cities on foot and hiking and bicycling. I had been severely depressed when I found out I needed a hip replacement and weeks after the surgery when people would ask how the hip was I would respond "Hip what hip?" In the way that when a pain is no longer there you forget about it that is what happened with my hip. Now I joke that my hip is the only joint I have that doesn't hurt.

Everyone at HSS from the receptionists to telephone operators to imaging technicians to nurses and doctors were amazingly friendly helpful supportive and fabulous.

I just saw Dr. Sculco for a checkup ten years after the surgery and he said everything is perfect with less than 1% wear on the material on the artificial hip and this is after ten years of returning to playing hoops several times a week as well as bicycling from Brooklyn to Manhattan for work several times a week for the past ten years!

If the world was run by Dr Sculco and HSS it would be an infinitely better place!!!!

I cannot thank Dr Sculco and HSS enough and they really did give me back my former life.
